Further Appreciation - Buffs and Prosperity?
I bought a Prosperity Set and a 1/2 oz Proof Buffalo from the Mint last year for investment purposes, and a 1/4 oz unc. buff.
They've appreciated nicely, to the point where I'm wondering if I should sell now (take the money and run, pretty much), or if people think they'll continue to appreciate in value and therefore be worth holding for a while longer. Just looking for opinions . . . and I'm old enough to realize that everybody has one, and that nobody has any crystal balls. |
Re: Further Appreciation - Buffs and Prosperity?
If you have all the rest and they are part of a set - NO.
If you have enough gold and silver put away - NO. If you want to "take advantage" of a POSSIBLE fad (and it is one!) - YES. YES - ONLY If you TRADE into more GOLD or SILVER (whichever you think will perform best). I'm partial to silver right now and glad I did not trade a while back. Sell and buy bullion, let the carps hold the perceived collectors value bag.

Re: Further Appreciation - Buffs and Prosperity?
I like to think that different baskets have their place for any of the UNKNOWN things the GOVY may do.
Bullion GOLD SILVER PLATINUM smaller gold silver and platinum coins too Carpy Slabs GOLD SILVER PLATINUM in many different styles but BIG is nice too Mint Pkg GOLD SILVER PLATINUM Commemeratives too GOLD SILVER USA SAE = monster boxes USA Silver Dollars USA 1000 bags of old JUNK silver Bars SILVER 10 & 100 IRAS GOLD SILVER PLATINUM Many different baskets like little Red Riding Hood for fending off all the wolves in the forest, jungles, and cities.... Now where's MY RUN FOR THE HILLS smilie? I do like my PROSPERITY SETS the BOXES are somewhat fancy....:yippee: |

Actually some of us DO have crystal balls..........a lot in fact.........but tht has no bearing on anything - my opinion - hold them!! (Unless you absolutely NEED to sell!) |

BTW: I used to have a crystal ball but it has been broken for a very long time. Currently, I rely a lot on my "gut feeling" but that has not been very reliable so far since I have been a member of GIM. |
Re: Further Appreciation - Buffs and Prosperity?
I would sell the 1/2 oz. eagle part of the pros set first since it's value has peaked on the greysheet, split the set up but keep the packaging. I would hold the 1/4 oz. unc. for my kids or grandkids.

I really hate it when both alternatives have much in their favor. I can see benefits in both holding and selling - which I guess is why I decided to ask what other people thought. |

I started buying just bullion, but when Cashback was so high last year I bought slabbed coins for the same price as I'd have paid for bullion. Now, I'm thinking some of those slabbed pieces would bring a premium and then I could buy more bullion with the "profit". Then again, I just bought a new used car (a phrase which never sounds right but is appropriately descriptive when you buy a car that's new to you but just happens to have 15K miles already on it), and the old bank account looks bad. Since I haven't yet become used to the notion that it's better to have less cash if one has more metal . . . well, you can probably read the rest of the scenario from that. DH worries more about the bank account and I worry more about the metal. There sure is a mighty pretty black Chevy Impala parked in the driveway now, though - and having someone else eat the $12,000 in depreciation between that one and a brand new one seemed like a pretty good 'score' in my favor. The other car we have is a Prius that I hate but love the mpg it gets. Finances give me headaches. |
